In 2023, I could not be more proud to now be returning to these roots as Senior Vice President, Direct-to-Consumer at Sony Interactive Entertainment. The graphics, the colours, the music - it was like nothing I or anyone in the family had seen before. I will never forget the magic the moment that Ridge Racer burst onto the screen.

My eyes lit up as I set about my job of finding the power converter, setting up the console, navigating the Japanese language operating system and loading our first game. The word PlayStation adorned across the top. One evening in 1995, my father returned from a week-long retailer visit to Tokyo carrying a black and grey box. However, I took great satisfaction that I was working with superior products that were the best-of-the-best in each of their class. Handling deliveries of Trinitron televisions, home cinema systems, hi-fis, Walkman, Discman and video cameras was great rugby training but not glamorous work. It was a humble, local retail franchise established by my dad. In 1993, as a young teenager, I started work in the stockroom of the Sony Centre in Cambridge, UK.
